Description

The skin is the largest organ of the human body because under a microscope it has been shown to regenerate itself on a daily basis. Its main function is to protect the human body from the outside world. Vitamin A, and its many forms, are a nutrient that has been shown to improve the appearance of skin when applied topically*.

Cocco Clinique MD Genesis PM is a pharmaceutical grade formulation that contains a low dose Retinol, a form of Vitamin A, which is one of the best long-term therapies for aging and, in lower doses, for acne prone skin*.  Long term use of Retinol is also associated with improved skin texture, decreased sallowness, fading of pigmented macules, and overall improvement in skin appearance.

Early side effects include erythema, photosensitivity, and sloughing or desquamation until tolerance is achieved. Because skin is photosensitized, use of sunblock is absolutely imperative. Cocco Clinique MD Genesis PM should be used for a minimum of 3-4 months, with the greatest improvement after 1 year of use.

Mechanism of action of Retinol working at the cellular level. UV radiation activates a series of phospokinases that stimulate proto-oncogenes and thereby activate AP-1 transcription factor. AP-1 Causes activation of metalloproteases such as collagenase, gelatinase and stromelysin which break down collagen. Retinol results in a 70% inhibition of AP-1 transcription factor binding to DNA and a significant reduction in protease activity. Histologic effects include increased epidermal and granular layer thickness, elimination of dysplasia, atypic and microscopic actinic keratoses; uniform dispersion of melanin granules, increased collagen and glycosaminoglycan deposition in the papillary dermis; and diminished dermal elastosis, angiogenesis, and compaction/thinning of the stratum corneum.
